Content Posting – The Struggle

So I mentioned in my Instagram Stories that recently I struggled with my content.  I want to share a little of that with you; and hopefully it will help you in your content journey.

I was just stuck!  Have you ever been in a place where you want to move but just can’t? I had ideas, images and thoughts but it was like a bottleneck effect.  They were all just stuck on the tip of my brain and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to get them on paper.

Lesson 1 - STEP AWAY

Soo, at the beginning of 2020, I just took a break. A break from posting and a break from social media and in doing so I got the break through that I needed. What I discovered was that I was so busy looking at and listening to how others said it “should be done” that I had lost my own voice.  Subconsciously, I was emulating what I saw from others and the bottleneck was that it simply wasn’t me!  Stepping away allowed me to reconnect to my voice and what is authentic for me.

Stepping away can be for a month like I did and it can also be part of your routine.  Morning prayer, time in meditation, an evening stroll, etc all help you to reconnect and focus.

Lesson 2 - BE TRUE TO YOU

I know a lot of very bright people say “color theme your posts”.  They should match the color of your brand.  Well, it just did not feel right for me.  The images that I use or create for my post, match the feeling that I want my post to convey.  How I want you to feel may or may not match the colors of my brand.  I want you to know and recognize me for my content and style of post. Being true to what I believe, and how I want to interact with you is more important to me than always matching my colors.

Lesson 3 - IT'S A CONVERSATION

There are formulas for how many post, how to theme your posts. Tip Tuesday,  Motivational Monday. Three posts a week; 2/3 tips and 1/3 sales and many more “formulas”.  I do agree that you have to have a plan for your posts.  Who are you talking to? What are you trying to say? Your plan will mimic your own rhythm.  Everyone’s way of talking is different, find your rhythm and you’ll find your formula.

What I have come to truly believe and want most is for my posts to be a conversation between me and you.  Sure, I want you to become a client but beyond that I want to connect. I want to share with you my passions, tips, knowledge and insights AND I want to open a door where you can share back with me!

"What I have come to truly believe and want most is for my posts to be a conversation between me and you."

Lesson 4 - DON'T COMPARE

Your journey, blog, business, services, is YOURS. Do not compare yourself to others and how they do. I recently read a statement that said comparing yourself to others denies the God in you! It is as if you are saying God did not know what He was doing when He made you. (powerful right!!)

Now of course, you can learn from others. You can glean insight and ideas for what you like (or don’t like) but don’t set others as your measure for success for you.  You just don’t fully know their journey.  Allow yourself to be who you were created to be, allow yourself to create your own path where you can grow, flourish and inspire others.

Be bold and fearless! It is easy to follow what someone else does; the challenge is in being bold enough to do what hasn’t yet been done – – to be YOU!

  1. STEP AWAY
  2. BE TRUE TO YOU
  3. IT’S A CONVERSATION
  4. DON’T COMPARE

These four lessons have allowed me to refocus on what I want to say and how I want to say it.  They have given me back my voice and helped me find the flow for my content; for my conversation between me & you.

These are what helped me overcome the “what to post” struggle.  I hope my sharing this inspires and ignites you to find your voice and post your content in a way that makes sense for you.
